EPSRC Overseas Travel Grants

Overseas Travel Grants, available through the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), provide funding for international travel and subsistence to study new techniques at recognised centres outside the UK, and travel to develop international collaborations. Centre visits may be to overseas universities or industrial organisations.

Where can you go?

There are no restrictions to recognised research centres, no matter what country, as long as it is outside the UK. This cost of visas can be included in the grant as well.

Funding researchers abroad to come to the UK as visiting researchers is not covered by the OTG scheme, but may be applied for in a Standard Research proposal.

Overseas Travel Grants do not need to be linked to an existing EPSRC research grant, but it is expected that new techniques learned, or collaborations formed, may lead to future research proposals

Number of people

Overseas Travel Grants normally only support a proposals’ Principal Investigator. Other staff can be requested but should be fully justified.

Overseas Travel Grants are subject to the same eligibility criteria as standard research grants, as specified in the EPSRC funding guide.

How to apply

Submit your proposal through the Research Councils’ Joint electronic submission (Je-S) system. Select document type 'Standard Proposal' and scheme 'Overseas Travel Grant'. As these are usually smaller grants than standard applications, it may not be appropriate for the description to fill the maximum of six A4 sides. Complete what is required to fully justify your intended visit.

Proposals may be submitted at any time but at least sixteen weeks before the proposed visit.
