Press Release: Cloudscape Brazil 2014 – where the EU-Brazil Cloud Connection gets stronger. October 2014

Cloudscape Brazil, 20 October 2014

Auditorium Prédio RDC, TecGraf / PUC-Rio, Rio de Janeiro

Cloudscape Brazil, 20 October 2014 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, is all about building bridges between Europe and Brazil to bring about social and economic changes through joint collaborative work.

One important focus area is tackling common challenges, especially challenges of great socio-economic import. Climate change, biodiversity, neglected diseases and cardiovascular diseases all have devastating effects, especially on poorer segments of society. Making progress on these challenges means a better future for our children and grandchildren.

Cloudscape Brazil offers insights into how e-infrastructure powered by the cloud and high performance computing are already changing the way we do research on climate change research, biodiversity and eHealth.

International communities will be offering examples of benefits they are gaining. These communities count the European e-Science infrastructure for biodiversity and ecosystem research (LifeWatch); one of the world’s centres of excellence for cardiology (INCOR) and the French National Institute for Agricultural Research (INRA), which uses scientific knowledge for economic and social innovation in the areas of food, agriculture and the environment. “These are just a few examples of the impact that cloud can have by speeding up the time it takes to generate new knowledge”, says Alain Franc, Senior Researcher at INRA-UMR Biogeco.
